1. Overview
FindMyRate ("we," "our," or "us") operates the website findmyrate.com (the "Site"), a free mortgage education and calculator platform. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you visit the Site.
We are committed to your privacy. Our calculator does not transmit your financial inputs to our servers. We do not sell personal information. We do not use deceptive practices to collect data.
By using the Site, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
2. Information We Collect
Information You Voluntarily Provide
When you contact us via our contact form, we collect:
- Your name
- Your email address
- The content of your message
This information is used solely to respond to your inquiry.
Automatically Collected Information
When you visit the Site, we may automatically collect:
- Log data — your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URL, pages visited, and time of visit. This is standard web server logging and is used for security, debugging, and aggregate analytics only.
- Device information — screen resolution, browser capabilities, and language preferences (used to render the site correctly).
- Cookie preferences — we store your cookie consent choice in your browser's localStorage. This does not leave your device.
Information We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, credit card numbers, government ID numbers, credit scores, or detailed financial information of any kind.
3. Calculator Data (Not Collected)
All calculator inputs — including your current loan balance, interest rates, remaining term, closing costs, and any other mortgage figures you enter — are processed entirely within your browser. This data is never transmitted to our servers, never logged, and never stored outside of your own device's session memory.
When you close or reload the page, all calculator inputs are discarded. We have no record of your financial calculations. If you choose to share your results via the "Share Snapshot" feature, the shared text is constructed locally in your browser before being sent to the platform you choose (Twitter, WhatsApp, etc.) — we do not receive or store that content.
4. How We Use Information
We use the limited information we collect for the following purposes only:
- To respond to your messages — when you contact us, we use your name and email to reply.
- To maintain and improve the Site — aggregate log data helps us understand usage patterns and fix technical issues.
- To display advertising — we use Google AdSense to display ads. Google uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. See Section 6 for details.
- To ensure security — log data helps us detect and prevent abusive or fraudulent activity.
We do not use your information for automated decision-making, profiling, or targeted marketing beyond what is disclosed in this policy.
5. Cookies and Tracking
Essential Cookies
We store one item in your browser's localStorage: your cookie consent preference (cookieConsent: "accepted" or "declined"). This is not a cookie and is not transmitted anywhere. It persists until you clear your browser storage.
Analytics
We do not currently use Google Analytics or any third-party analytics service that tracks individual users. Aggregate traffic data comes from server-level log processing only.
Advertising Cookies
Google AdSense sets cookies on your device to serve personalized advertisements. These are third-party cookies managed by Google, not by us. See Section 6 for details and opt-out instructions.
Managing Cookies
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block, delete, or be notified when cookies are set. You can also use the cookie consent banner on the Site to decline non-essential cookies. Note that blocking cookies may affect the display of advertisements but will not affect calculator functionality.
6. Advertising & Google AdSense
FindMyRate uses Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google AdSense uses cookies and web beacons to serve ads based on your interests and prior browsing activity.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this Site and other sites on the internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ad Settings or by visiting the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page.
For more information on how Google uses data when you use our Site, see Google's Privacy & Terms.
Advertisers on our Site are vetted by Google. We do not grant advertisers access to your personal information. The display of an advertisement on our Site does not constitute an endorsement of that advertiser.
We display ads in compliance with Google AdSense program policies. Advertising does not influence our editorial content, calculator methodology, or financial verdicts.
7. Information Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party. We do not have lead-generation partnerships and do not share user information with mortgage lenders, brokers, or financial institutions.
We may share information in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers — third parties that assist with hosting, email delivery, or site security. These providers are contractually obligated to use information only to perform services for us.
- Legal compliance — if required by law, court order, or government request, we may disclose information to comply with legal obligations.
- Protection of rights — if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of FindMyRate, our users, or the public.
- Business transfer — if FindMyRate is acquired or merged, user information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before information is transferred and subject to a different privacy policy.
Aggregate, de-identified data (statistics about Site usage that do not identify any individual) may be shared publicly or with partners without restriction.
8. Data Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect information collected through the Site. The Site is served over HTTPS, encrypting data in transit.
However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
Because your financial inputs are never transmitted to our servers, the primary security risk for your mortgage data is local to your own device. We recommend using the Site on a trusted network and device.
If you become aware of any security vulnerability related to this Site, please notify us at info@findmyrate.pro.
9. California Privacy Rights (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) give you specific rights regarding your personal information:
- Right to Know — you may request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
- Right to Delete — you may request deletion of personal information we hold about you, subject to certain exceptions.
- Right to Opt-Out of Sale — we do not sell personal information. You do not need to opt out. If this practice changes, we will update this policy and provide a clear opt-out mechanism.
- Right to Non-Discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
- Right to Correct — you may request correction of inaccurate personal information we hold.
To exercise these rights, contact us at info@findmyrate.pro. We will respond to verifiable requests within 45 days.
Note: Because we collect minimal personal information (contact form submissions only) and no financial data, most of these rights apply in very limited circumstances for FindMyRate users.
10. European Privacy Rights (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) grants you certain rights:
- Right of Access — you may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to Rectification — you may request correction of inaccurate data.
- Right to Erasure — you may request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
- Right to Restrict Processing — you may request that we limit how we use your data.
- Right to Data Portability — you may request your data in a machine-readable format.
- Right to Object — you may object to processing based on legitimate interests.
Our lawful basis for processing contact form data is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). Our lawful basis for server logs is legitimate interest in site security (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
To exercise GDPR rights, contact us at info@findmyrate.pro. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
11. Children's Privacy
FindMyRate is intended for adults (18+) making mortgage decisions. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If we discover we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.
If you believe a child under 13 has submitted personal information through this Site, please contact us at info@findmyrate.pro.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will post a notice on the Site's homepage.
We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the Site after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
